Fondazione Bisazza: Ein Dialog zwischen Design, Architektur und Photographie
Die Fondatione Bisazza befindet sich im Herzen eines Industriegebietes in Montecchio Maggiore (ca. 30 Autominuten östlich von Verona); nicht gerade ein Ort, wo man Werke führender Architekten und Designer wie John Pawson, Richard Meier oder Ettore Sottsass erwarten würde. Seit mehr als 60 Jahren ist dieser Ort zentral im Leben der Familie Bisazza. 1956 gründete Renato Bisazza hier eine Mosaikmanufaktur, deren Erzeugnisse für die Aussenverkleidung von Gebäuden bestimmt waren. Heute befindet sich an dieser Stelle eine Stiftung, die dieses Erbe neu interpretiert. Sie bringt auf eindrucksvolle Art und Weise filigrane und grossformatige Werke zusammen: 15’000’000 kleinste Mosaiksteinchen stehen im Kontrast zu imposanten Skulpturen, die sich über den gesamten Komplex und die Gartenanlagen erstrecken. In einem Programm aus Wechselausstellungen liegt der inhaltliche Fokus auf einer Kultur des Designs im Kontext zu Architektur. Dabei wurde der von Piero Bisazza initiierten Fotosammlung ein Raum geschaffen, um Fotografie und Architektur dialogisch zu reflektieren. Der Raum ist den Arbeiten international renommierter Fotografen gewidmet, die dem Besucher einen reichhaltigen Überblick über die verschiedenen Herangehensweisen an dieses Thema vermitteln.

Fondazione Bisazza: A Dialogue Between Design, Architecture, and Photography
Situated in the heart of an industrial zone in Montecchio Maggiore—approximately 30 minutes by car east of Verona—the Fondazione Bisazza occupies a location that seems, at first glance, an unlikely setting for encountering works by leading architects and designers such as John Pawson, Richard Meier, or Ettore Sottsass. Yet this very site has been at the core of the Bisazza family’s legacy for over six decades.
Founded in 1956 by Renato Bisazza, the original mosaic workshop produced refined glass mosaics intended primarily for architectural façades. Today, this space has evolved into a foundation that reimagines and preserves that legacy through a contemporary lens, foregrounding the intersections of design, architecture, and artistic innovation.
The foundation presents a striking interplay between intricate detail and monumental scale: over 15 million mosaic tesserae stand in deliberate contrast to large-scale sculptural installations that unfold across the building complex and its landscaped gardens. This juxtaposition underscores a central curatorial principle—the dialogue between material precision and spatial experience.
Through a program of rotating exhibitions, the Fondazione Bisazza explores the cultural significance of design within architectural discourse. A key component of this mission is the dedicated gallery for the photography collection initiated by Piero Bisazza. This space serves as a platform for reflecting on the relationship between photography and architecture, showcasing works by internationally acclaimed photographers whose diverse visual strategies offer visitors a multifaceted engagement with the built environment.
